…one of these days, the court system will realize that some mothers are not well mentally. The assumption that mothers are automatically the better parents is harming our children. Fathers, we have to be present. It’s important to check in with your kids regularly, ideally talking to them once a day or having several small conversations throughout the day.
In Florida, a 6-year-old boy named Ra’myl Pierre was found dead in his bedroom after his mother attempted to “exorcise demons” from him, as reported by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. School resource deputies performed a welfare check on Friday because Ra’myl hadn’t attended school for two weeks.
A deputy visited the home that morning and was led by the boy's mother, 31-year-old Rhonda Paulynice, to the bedroom where she found Ra’myl deceased in his bed. Sheriff Richard Del Toro mentioned that the cause of death was unclear, and an autopsy was scheduled for the following Saturday.
During questioning, detectives discovered that the last time Paulynice spoke to Ra’myl was on May 18, which authorities believe is when he was killed. He had missed school since May 14. A day before Ra’myl's death, on May 17, deputies had been at the home for a medical issue involving his mother.
Sheriff Del Toro explained that Paulynice believed she was instructed by God to exorcise demons from her child. She has been charged with second-degree murder, failure to report a death, and altering a body. The mother told investigators that when Ra’myl stopped moving, she thought he was free from the demons and was waiting for him to “come back.”
At the time of the incident, no one else was living in the home. “From what I understand, this kid just lit up the room and was loved by everybody,” said Sheriff Del Toro.
