This is the part of family court that many people do not see: the accusations, lies, and manipulations of the system to gain an advantage over the other parent.
DDG has filed a counterclaim to Halle Bailey's restraining order against him.
Bailey had previously accused DDG of physical abuse and received a temporary restraining order last month. Now, DDG has filed a counterclaim, saying that Bailey is the abusive one who has threatened to harm herself in order to manipulate him emotionally.
DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., is 27 years old. He claims Bailey, 25, has hit him, stalked him by secretly tracking him with devices, and threatened to take her own life during fights when he tried to end their relationship or set boundaries.
In his legal filing, DDG details instances where Bailey allegedly threatened to kill herself with a knife or a gun. He also says she has used their 18-month-old son, Halo, to manipulate him by threatening to get an abortion or block his access to the child.
In one specific incident in August 2023, DDG claims Bailey got angry and threatened to use his firearm to end her life. He states that her actions create a dangerous environment for both her and their son.
DDG's legal documents include text messages from Bailey expressing her distress, like one message that said, “I’M GOING TO KILL MYSELF TONIGHT” (reported exactly as written).
DDG is requesting that the court order Bailey to stay away from him and that they share custody of Halo, who currently lives with Bailey due to the temporary restraining order. He is also asking to prevent Bailey from taking their son to Italy for a two-month film shoot, arguing that she poses a risk to both herself and the child during this time.
DDG's attorney expressed concern, saying that a parent who has repeatedly threatened suicide and acted in crisis cannot be trusted to take care of a young child abroad without supervision.
Bailey’s representatives have not yet commented on these new accusations. However, her attorney stated in court that DDG's claims are “not accurate.”
During the hearing, a judge announced that a decision would be made soon regarding Bailey's request to take Halo to Italy. A full hearing will take place on June 24 to address both parents' requests for permanent restraining orders.
